The Bachelor of Science degree program in Computer Science at AUST (Beirut Campus) is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of ABET.

The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET, Baltimore, MD, USA) is a non-governmental organization, recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA, Washington, DC, USA), that globally accredits post-secondary education programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology.

One of the key elements of ABET accreditation is the requirement that programs continuously and systematically improve the quality of education provided. As part of this continuous improvement requirement, programs set specific and measurable goals for their students and graduates, assess their success in reaching these goals, and improve the offered programs based on the results of the said assessment.

Another key element of ABET accreditation is the requirement that programs should have an Industry Advisory Board (IAB) that includes prominent figures from the industry who will help to shape the program courses according to market needs based on statistical studies and technology trends.

In addition to providing colleges and universities a structured mechanism to assess, evaluate, and improve their programs, ABET accreditation helps students and their parents choose quality college programs, and enables employers and graduate schools to recruit graduates they know are well-prepared to enter the global workforce.

ABET has set the higher-educational standards in its fields for nearly 75 years. More information about ABET, its member societies, and the evaluation criteria used to accredit programs can be found at http://www.abet.org.
