Admission Requirements

    Prospective graduate students shall submit applications to the Admissions Office which does the initial screening and then sends the file to the Admissions Committee of the corresponding graduate program for final deliberation. Eligible candidates should hold a bachelor's (or equivalent) degree, a minimum TOEFL score of 600, and a proven record of professional experience of a minimum of 2 years. At the time of application to the graduate program, candidates must submit a brief statement of purpose written in English. Candidates are assigned an academic advisor for the duration of their study towards the degree at AUST.

    Admission decisions are based upon a number of factors, including undergraduate Grade Point Average (GPA), TOEFL scores, previous graduate study (if any), Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) scores and Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores (if applicant has taken them), work experience, and letters of recommendation. A pre-admission interview will be scheduled for qualified applicants.

     

    Category I: (Clear)

    To be admitted to the “Clear Category”, the student should have obtained a Bachelor's Degree in a related field of specialization from a recognized college or university with a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00 (B or 80%) in the major field of study. This degree must be preceded by a secondary school certificate recognized by the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

     

    Category II: Graduate on Probation

    A graduate student is admitted “on probation” if he/she had obtained a Bachelor's Degree in a related field of specialization from a recognized college or university with a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50 – 3.00 (C+ – B or 75 – 80%) in the major field of study. The Bachelor Degree must be preceded by a secondary school certificate recognized by the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

     

    Category III: Prospective Graduates

    To qualify for admission as a “prospective graduate” , the student should have obtained a Bachelor's Degree with a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.2 – 2.5 ( C – C+) from a recognized college or university. The Bachelor's Degree must be preceded by a secondary school certificate recognized by the Lebanese Ministry of Education and Higher Education. 

    1. a.      Related field of specialization

     

    Students who are considered for admission as prospective candidates in related field of specialization will be assigned 4 – 6 remedial courses (on a case-by-case basis). Upon completion of these courses with a minimum grade of C (2.0/ 4.0) in each, and a cumulative average of B (3.0/4.0), the Faculty Graduate Committee may recommend the applicants for admission to regular graduate status.

    1. b.      Non-related field of specialization

     

    Students who are considered for admission as prospective candidates in non-related field of specialization will be assigned 4 – 6 remedial courses (on a case-by-case basis). Upon completion of these courses with a minimum grade of C (2.0/ 4.0) in each, and a cumulative average of B (3.0/4.0), the Faculty Graduate Committee may recommend the applicants for admission to regular graduate status.

    The remedial courses assigned by the Faculty Graduate Committee will not be considered as part of the candidate’s graduate program, and may not be taken along with graduate courses that require prerequisites.
