The American University of Science and Technology (AUST) hosted a delegation of the Arab Creative Women’s Forum I that was held in Beirut, Lebanon, in response to an invitation extended by the University’s President Hiam Sakr to the President of “Diwan Ahl El Qalam”, author and poet Salwa Al Amin; the objective of the event was to honor the members of the Arab Creative Women on Women’s Day.
The symposium that was held at AUST highlighted the most prominent researches conducted by female Arab researchers, each in her field of expertise. In addition to the honored guests, there were dignitaries, known literary and academic figures as well as members of the administration, faculty and staff, and interested students.
The Director of Media and Public Relations Department Ms. Majida Dagher, welcomed the attendees; this was followed by President Sakr’s speech, in which she noted and applauded the prominent status achieved by women in the Arab countries as well as in Lebanon, expressing her pride in the fact that four Lebanese are elected as ministers in the current government. President Sakr also shared the achievements that AUST has attained, and its role in advancing technology, research and forensic sciences.
First guest speaker, Saudi Princess Dr. Haya Bint Khalid Bin Bandar Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, talked about her field of specialization in genetic diseases; second guest speaker, Former Minister of Communications in the field of Technology and Information in Palestine and the Vice President of Jerusalem Affairs Dr. Safa Nasser Al-Din talked about the negative and the positive sides of technological development. Then, the President Assistant for International Affairs at Isra University, Jordan, and Director of Consultation Training Continuous Education and Community Service Center, and a specialist in the field of water and the environment, Dr. Ghaida Abu Rumman, gave a lecture on the water situation in the Levant.
This was followed by an open discussion between the guest speakers and the attendees; and, a word of thanks and appreciation by Dr. Salwa Al-Amin, who praised the role played by the Arab women in various fields, calling for similar annual seminars to be held in different countries. The event culminated in a tour of AUST’s laboratories. President Hiam Sakr then presented the honored guests with Shields of Appreciation and souvenirs from Lebanon, and treated all to a fabulous Lebanese lunch.
